Kanos Castle is the residence of Margrave Matilda of Tuscany, located in the Apennines, not far from the city of Reggio Emilia.

It was here in 1077 that Henry IV humiliated Pope Gregory the Seventh in order to achieve the abolition of excommunication.

At the beginning of the 11th century, Henry IV, during his second campaign, was defeated in a battle with Matilda's army.

Today, the castle is a ruin, the destruction of which was stopped thanks to restoration work. In the 70s of the XIX century, the castle was bought from Count Valentini and soon declared a national monument.
