The Euphrasian Basilica is an architectural complex that includes the basilica itself, the bell tower, the episcopal residence, the baptistery and the sacristy.

The basilica was built in the 6th century on a foundation the more ancient church of St. Maurus (VI century). From this church to this day, only the floor mosaics have survived, which can be seen in the palace of the basilica.

The basilica was originally dedicated to the Most Holy Theotokos, but later it began to bear the name of Bishop Euphrasius.

In 1440, during an earthquake, the basilica was badly damaged, and for some time was in desolation. It was restored only in the 18th century.

This architectural monument looks like a three-aisled temple with an octagonal baptistery. The side aisles of the basilica are separated from the central one by two rows of arcades, which consist of Greek columns decorated with Byzantine capitals.

The chapel of the basilica contains the relics of St. Maurus, who is the patron saint of the city.

The episcopal residence is connected to the basilica palace by a narrow corridor. It is a two-story building, on the second floor of which there is a large hall, where the bishop used to receive believers.

The belfry of the basilica was built in the 16th century. The observation deck of the bell tower offers a beautiful view of the city of Porec and its surroundings.

The interior decoration of the basilica is very rich; many masters of different eras were engaged in its design. But the most valuable are the mosaics of the 6th century. Here are preserved mosaics depicting the apostles, Jesus Christ, a lamb and 12 martyrs; above the apse you can see mosaics depicting the Virgin Mary with a baby in her arms, and on the sides - images of local saints. Bishop Euphrasius is also depicted here.

The Euphrasian Basilica is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the most significant architectural monuments of the Byzantine era.
