It is no coincidence that Krumlov Castle today is considered one of the most beautiful castles in the Czech Republic. Krumlov Castle is the second largest Czech castle after Prague Castle.

Guided tours of the castle are held regularly during the season. Experienced guides introduce tourists to the brightest architectural ensemble of the Renaissance residence, built here in the XIII century.

The castle was first mentioned in writing in 1240, in a poem by Ulrich von Lichtenstein – Austrian knight. There is a document drawn up by Duke Ottokar, which also mentions the Krumlov castle.

The construction of the castle was carried out by order of the Krumlov family, then for a long time the residence of the Rosenbergs was located here. The castle was built on a high rock ledge in the Renaissance style, and elements of the Baroque style can also be traced in the architecture.

The park area of the castle, decorated in French and English styles, occupies about 10 hectares of land. Particularly noteworthy are the castle tower, which houses the basement prison, and the Lapidarium with an exhibition of Baroque sculptures.

Baroque castle theater – the main property of the theatrical heritage, where you can see one of the well-preserved scenes from the 17th century. The theater has an almost complete set of sets, props, costumes and technical equipment for the stage.

The castle presents to the attention of visitors three exhibitions of contemporary Czech art – painting, glassware, ceramics.

Nowadays the castle belongs to the most valuable monuments of medieval architecture. The castle complex includes 40 different palaces and castles, as well as 5 courtyards and a picturesque garden decorated with many fountains.

The castle houses a large exhibition of paintings and a collection of Flemish tapestries. Also of interest is the hall of masks, where you can observe the illusionist paintings by Joseph Lederer.
