Tourism

People come to Cesky Krumlov primarily for an excursion visit to the local Castle. This object, along with all the buildings of the historical center of the city, is included by UNESCO in the register of the World Heritage of Humanity, and is protected by the world communities.

For guests of the city in the historical part, a unique atmosphere of the Middle Ages is created - there is even its own knightly tavern where dishes and drinks according to old Czech recipes. Surprisingly, there are not so many beer houses here, and most of them are always filled with people, regardless of the time of day.

Unfortunately, Cesky Krumlov cannot boast of large shopping areas, but it has its own craft shops selling not only souvenirs, but also quite everyday things. There is an interesting toy store in the city that sells puppets made by local craftsmen.

Attractions

The central part of Cesky Krumlov is Krumlov Castle - a large-scale construction of the Middle Ages, recognized as the second largest castle in the Czech Republic after Prague Castle. This unique complex was created in 1242, and it was he who laid the foundation for the emergence of the city itself. The castle rises above the residential quarters of Cesky Krumlov, since it was built on a rock, for the same reason, excursion visits in winter are limited in time. The reason for this is the lack of electricity inside the castle - it was impossible to run power cables along the walls.

Opposite the castle is the main cathedral of the city - St. Vitus Church. The non-gothic building was built for several decades, according to surviving documents, the final work was completed here only in the 16th century. St. Vitus is considered the patron saint of all residents and workers of Cesky Krumlov - shoemakers, masons and brewers.

Not far from the church is another landmark of the city - Marian Column. This is another plague pillar dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the year of the end of the plague epidemic, the monument was created in 1769.
