Milliarium Aureum (”Golden Milestone”) in Italy, Rome resort
Rating: 8,9/10 (2493 votes)  The golden milestone was previously a gilded bronze column. The column was erected at the Roman Forum in 20 BC. by order of the Emperor Augustus. On the column were carved the names of the capitals of the provincial cities of the Roman Empire, as well as the distance from Rome to them. It was from this stone that the main roads of the empire began. Nowadays, only the preserved part of the column base can be observed.
