Initially, the fortress served to protect the gold mines located near the village of Stupna and the regional border. Later, a moat was dug around the fortress, and the only way to get to the castle was via a chain drawbridge. In the middle of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, a major reconstruction was carried out in the castle, after which the castle acquired a Renaissance style. The interior design of the castle was carried out by Krishtof Garant, who was executed in June 1621. Over the years, the fortress gradually decayed, and after a fire in 1830 it was completely destroyed. Soon, part of the walls were dismantled, and only ruins reminded of the former glory of the castle. In 1921, the castle passed into the possession of the village of Pecka. Thanks to the efforts of local authorities and residents, the castle was partially reconstructed. Nowadays, the territory of the fortress houses a museum exhibition dedicated to the history of the city, its famous natives, as well as Krishtof Garant.
