Rating: 8,1/10 (5609 votes) The Church of Sant Andrea della Valle is the largest Baroque church in Rome. The temple is located on one of the central city highways & ndash; Victor Emmanuel II street. The construction of the church was started in 1590 at the expense of the Duchess of Amalfi. Construction developed more actively in 1609-1650. Carlo Maderna became the architect of the project. In the years 1655-1663 Carlo Rainaldi designed the facade of the building. The frescoes that adorn the church were executed by the Parma master Giovanni Lanfranco, his main work being the dynamic multi-figured fresco of the dome of the Assumption of Our Lady. In 1670, the Lancellotti Chapel was created, by Carlo Fontana. Among the sculptural works, one can distinguish the tombstone of Pope Pius II.
