The church is located in the Roman district of Trastevere. Today, the church houses such works of art as paintings of the Transfiguration; and 'The Scourging' by Sebastiano del Piombo. The great painter Michelangelo also took part in the creation of the paintings. The church also features the grave of Beatrice Cenci and the Vasari ceiling. Until 1797, the last major work of Raphael Santi was kept in the cathedral – The Transfiguration, which was transferred to a temple in the Vatican. The superb Raimondi Chapel was created by Bernini in 1640. Of particular note is the Tempietto Chapel, which is a rotunda chapel erected in 1502 on the Janiculum hill by order of the monks of Ferdinand. The construction work was supervised by Donato Bramante. The chapel was the first work of a Milanese architect in Rome. Upon completion of the construction, it made a huge impression on the residents of the city.
