The temple is located near the Pantion on Ignatius Loyola Square. The temple was built at the expense of Cardinal Ludoviko Ludovisi, who was the nephew of Pope Gregory the Fifteenth. The sketches for the building were developed by Carlo Maderno. The construction work was supervised by the Jesuit Orazio Grassi. The plan of the temple vaguely resembles the Il-Jezu church. Today, the church keeps the tombstones of revered Jesuits – Saints John Berchman and Aloysius. The ceiling of the temple is decorated with the fresco `` Triumph of Saint Ignatius of Loyola '' executed by the painter Andrea Pozzo, which creates the illusion of a dome on the flat ceiling. The apse also contains frescoes of the life and deeds of St. Ignatius.
