The name in English is Lake Otjikoto and Lake Guinas. Photo and descriptionLakes Otchikoto and Guinas are located 24 kilometers from the city of Tsumeb. Otchikoto is known for the fact that in 1915 the retreating German troops flooded their weapons and ammunition there. Members of the Moscow Diving Club raised a cart with ammunition from the bottom of the lake, now it is exhibited in the Alte Feste Museum, other trophies of the Diving Club have become exhibits in the museum of the city of Tsumeb. The depth of Otchikoto is from 33 to 90 meters, but the legends of local tribes say that Otchikoto is bottomless and communicates with Lake Guinas, which is 130 meters deep, and the water has a surprisingly dark, almost ink color. The stalactites raised from the bottom of Lake Otchikoto are 80,000 years old, which indicates that the lake was once a giant dolomite cave and was formed as a result of the destruction of the upper part of the cave.
