Photo and descriptionLake Kucherlinskoe is one of the picturesque lakes located in the Ust-Koksinsky region, in the upper reaches of the Kucherla river, on the northern slope of the Katunsky ridge of the Altai Mountains. Kucherlinskoye Lakes is a group of lakes that includes the Big Kucherlinskoye Lake, the Lower Kucherlinskoye and the Upper Kucherlinskoye lakes. One of the largest lakes of glacial origin is the Big Kucherlinskoye Lake. Its name comes from the word "kudyurlu", which in translation from the Altai language means "saline". On the east and west sides, the lake is closed by peaks up to 3000 meters, on the south - by the narrow valley of the Kucherla River, and on the north - by moraine deposits that dam the lake. The length of the Big Kucherlinskoye Lake is about 5 kilometers, the average width is 575 meters, maximum - 900 meters, average depth - over 30 meters. The Upper Kucherlinskoye Lake is located slightly higher than the Bolshoi Lake and is a small reservoir, 480 meters long, 200 meters wide, with a maximum depth of only 5 meters. The southern and eastern shores of the lake are very swampy. The Lower Lake is located 200 meters north of the Big Kucherlinskoye Lake between moraine hills and ramparts. The length of the lake is 532 meters, the average width is 185 meters, and the maximum reaches 280 meters. The color of its water reminds of the glacial origin of the Kucherlinskoye lake. A beautiful matte-turquoise shade of water is created by a mineral suspension that almost never settles to the bottom. Depending on the weather, Lake Kucherlinskoe can change its color, for example, to dark gray. The lake is inhabited by a large number of grayling, which mainly feed on various crustaceans. In 1997, rainbow trout was launched into the lake. Steep rocky cliffs, turquoise color of the water - all this and much more, combined with the noise of water falling from the ledges, makes the lake attractive to tourists from all over the world.
