The Solovetsky Maritime Museum is an Orthodox museum, visiting which you can learn not only about the economic, but also about the spiritual development of the vast sea spaces, as well as the coastal territorial zone of the Russian North. In addition, the Maritime Museum acquaints its visitors with little-known, but very important components of the maritime historical development of Russia.

The museum is located in a barn intended for rowing ships, which became a monument to the naval monastery economy, built in 1841. Before placing a museum in this building, global repair and restoration work was carried out, because the building at that time was in a dilapidated state.

The opening of the museum coincided with the 500th anniversary of the Moscow Metropolitan - Saint Philip. The necessary design work was carried out according to the blessing of one of the governors of the Solovetsky Transfiguration of the Savior Monastery Joseph Bratishchev.

The main exposition in the Maritime Museum was the exhibition "Solovetsky Monastery and the Maritime Activities of the Russian North", which became a dedication to traditional technologies for building ships. with the help of which it became possible to develop the largest territorial zone of the Russian North, as well as the Arctic during the 15-17 centuries. It was these technologies that were able to fully ensure the greatest superiority of domestic shipbuilding in the cold waters of the Arctic Ocean.

As you know, one of the main roles in the economic and spiritual development of the northern territories for several centuries was played by the Solovetsky Monastery or "House of the Savior and Nikola ", which had one of the largest fleets in the White Sea, as well as a developed and profitable maritime economy.

Within the framework of the exhibition, you can see items that were collected for the ethnographic expeditions of the famous Association of Northern Shipping to the coastal zones of the White sea, as well as the well-known scientific center called the "Marine Complex Arctic Expedition" of the natural and cultural heritage named after DS Likhachev. Some of the exhibits belong to experienced local historians and collectors from the city of Arkhangelsk - Razmanov P.V., Sidorov A.I.

The most important exhibit in the Solovetsky Maritime Museum is the large yacht "St. Peter". It should be noted that the acquaintance of the great Tsar Peter the First with the White Sea took place in 1693, when he visited the city of Arkhangelsk, as well as sailing on the yacht "St. Peter" in the vastness of the White Sea. The yacht became a vessel, created according to the Dutch model, and was built in Arkhangelsk at the beginning of 1693 by G. Jansen and P. Basom - eminent ship craftsmen. The process of decorating the vessel was entrusted to F. Ivanov, who was famous for his woodwork. The lined sailing ship had only one mast with oblique and square sails, and was also equipped with twelve cannons. On all sides there were suspended balancers for the greatest stability of the vessel. The yacht had a Russian ship flag, which was the oldest relic of all the surviving tricolors, which is now kept in one of the museums of St. dishes and other technical products. Today, the museum also has a ceramic workshop, where master classes are held in the summer season by experienced ceramists who come to the celebration of the Solovetsky fair. In the cold season, a ceramic workshop works at the Solovetsky Sunday school.

In early September 2009, a loom found its place in the Maritime Museum. Irina Solomeshch, a master of the national title, conducted master classes on hand weaving skills, and as a result, a small panel-type rug appeared. This is how rugs on the maritime theme began to appear, the creation of which is currently being taught at Sunday school.

Also, for a long period of time, the museum has a ship modeling club, in which children learn the basics of shipbuilding and present their models at exhibitions.
