The beginning of the summer tourist period in 2010 delighted numerous visitors to the Solovetsky Museum-Reserve, in which at that time a new exposition entitled “The history of the Solovetsky camps and prisons during 1920-1930 was opened. ". At the full-scale exhibition, materials related to the historical development, as well as the events of the Solovetsky camps and prisons, which radically changed the fate of Solovetsky prisoners and prisoners, are exhibited to the greatest extent possible.

The museum exposition is located in the historical building of the barrack of the Administration of the Solovetsky camps special appointment built in 1929. The exposition is represented by nine sections, sequentially telling about the life of the Solovetsky prisoners: the process of interrogation in the office of the chief investigator, the process of transferring and subsequent transfer to the camp, the use of slaves there at the enterprises of the camp production, survival in the conditions of the punishment cells of Zayatsky Island and Sekirnaya Gora, the "cultural and educational" life of the ELEPHANT, as well as private attempts to escape from the Solovetsky Islands. Not only materials on the history of prisons and camps are presented at the exposition, but also documents and photographs telling about the formation of the general system of the GULAG, for which the Solovetsky special-purpose camp was a true model.

All available in the museum are displayed on the tablets materials according to which museum visitors can see and consider real objects of the everyday life of the camp; you can also see photographs showing the most famous prisoners and prisoners of the Solovetsky camp. Each of the sections has so-called display books, which display copies of historical documents of the past, as well as biographical materials related to some prisoners. The largest number of documents presented at the exposition became available for the first time to the general public. Among the most popular and interesting documents are some lists of monastic brethren at the Solovetsky Monastery until 1929, papers on the seizure of all church valuables during the 1920s, as well as materials on the organization of the famous special purpose camp. This section also contains the Criminal Codes of 1922 and 1926, materials from investigative cases No. 747 entitled "On the Kremlin conspiracy" and evidence of numerous repressions carried out during 1937-1938.

As for the information saturation of the entire presented exhibition space, it completely transforms the exhibition into a specific information center, which is equipped with modern electronic equipment systems. With the help of computers, as well as multimedia tablets, you can easily get the most detailed information about the so-called "red penal servitude" on the Solovetsky Islands. A large plasma screen shows sequential footage of newsreels filmed on the islands, as well as in the mainland divisions of the camp from the 1920s to the 1930s. The structure inherent in information blocks and its location make the museum exposition especially convenient in terms of conducting various pre-planned information tours, as well as for personal and individual visits to the museum.
