The picturesque Teletskoye Lake is located in a tectonic basin in the northeastern part of Altai in Ulagansky and Turochaksky regions of the Altai Republic. The lake is surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges up to 2500 m high. 70 rivers and even more watercourses flow into Lake Teletskoye.

Local residents call the lake Altyn-Kol, the Golden Lake. The lake received its modern name about 400 years ago from the first Russian explorers. The lake was named after the Altai tribes - Teleuts, who previously lived on these shores.

The total length of the lake is 223 sq. km is about 77.7 km, the maximum width is 5 km, and the average is 2-3 km in the aisles. As for the depth of the lake, it is quite deep: the maximum depth is 325 m, and the average depth is 175 m. The lake is very clean, therefore it is often compared to Baikal. The lake, as well as its coast, is the warmest region in the Altai Mountains.

The shores of the lake are steep and steep almost everywhere, cut by gorges. There are two huge bays - Kyginsky and Kamginsky - these are natural spawning grounds for fish living in the lake. The northern and southern parts of the lake ends with wide stretches.

The main tourist attraction of Lake Teletskoye is the amazing waterfalls located next to it. The largest and most popular is the Korbu waterfall, which falls down from a height of more than 12 m.Opposite this waterfall is the deepest point of the lake - 330 m. Another attraction of the Teletskoye Lake is the eight-meter Kishte waterfall, located on the territory of one of the largest reserves in Russia - the Altai nature reserve. The territory of this reserve includes the Shapshalsky and Abakansky ridges, the Bolshoi Chulchinsky waterfall - the largest waterfall in the Altai Republic.

Lake Teletskoye is a paradise for real fishermen. Taimen, whitefish, pike, perch, burbot and even Teletsky grayling are found in the lake surface.
