Photo and descriptionThe Hame Fortress is an old castle with fortified walls of gray stone, later renovated with red brick, from the artillery loopholes of which a magnificent view of Lake Vajanavesija opens. the architecture of the building is definitely German style. This is a balcony, which replaced the interior doors of the premises of the second floor, and the courtyard, decorated with vaults with a characteristic ornament. The castle, built in the XIII century. in the fertile area of Hame, performed a defensive and economic function, and also contributed to its social development, as a result of which the fortress turned into an administrative center. Subsequently, after the loss of its strategic importance and the annexation of Finland to Russia, the Hame fortress was a Russian fort until 1917. The oldest building here is a well, laid out in the courtyard in case of a siege of the city. In the middle of the 18th century, in one of the premises of the fortress there was a bakery that baked bread and crackers for the Swedish army every day. In the period from 1837 to 1952. there was a prison in the fortress. After restoration, Hame turned into a museum complex, where medieval fairs and city festivals are held in the surrounding park in summer.
