Photo and description

The Old Court was the first residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty in 1253-1474. Built under Ludwig Stroh after the division of Bavaria (1255), it flourished under Ludwig Bavarz, Holy Roman Emperor from 1328-1347. Since the 17th century, the Old Court was already only an administrative building. A special attraction is the bay window, known as the 'Affenturm' - "Monkey Tower". According to legend, once a monkey from a menagerie kidnapped a baby who later became Emperor Ludwig, carried him to the top of the tower and returned the child only after much persuasion.
