Photo and description

The house of festivals and congresses is located in Bregenz, located in western Austria, on the shores of Lake Constance near the borders of Germany and Switzerland.

A year after the end of World War II, the first festival took place in Bregenz: a musical performance was staged directly on two barges moored on Lake Constance. In a city that didn't even have a theater, the idea of holding a festival seemed eccentric, but the decision to choose the most beautiful part of the city, the lake, as a temporary stage, was quite successful. Guests from Austria, Germany, Switzerland and France made the festival an international event in its first year. Due to strong public interest, the festival began to develop, its programs became more diverse. The festival management's long-standing dream came true with the opening of the House of Festivals and Congresses in 1980.

The House of Festivals stands for a bold visual presentation. It is the unique location, the inimitable open-air atmosphere that makes the Bregenz festivals so popular.

In 1995, the Bregenz festival celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. In the anniversary year, the festival attracted a record number of visitors. Additional stands were installed. That year the festival was attended by 318 thousand people.

In 2007, Puccini's opera Tosca was staged here, which, together with a new sound system, became an ideal choice for a stage on the shores of Lake Constance. She did not leave indifferent the team from EON Productions, which is engaged in the production of James Bond films. As a result, the film crew came here in early May for 10 days to shoot scenes for the next episode of the Bond film "Quantum of Solace."

In June 2008, during the European Football Championship, which took place in Austria and Switzerland, on stage a television studio was set up and the auditorium was converted into a public viewing arena. In total, over 160,000 football fans came to watch live broadcasts on the lake shore.
