The Mozyr United Museum of Local Lore was formed immediately after the end of the war on June 18, 1948 by decision No. 618 dated 06/18/1948 of the Executive Committee of the Polesie Regional Council of Working People's Deputies “On the opening of the regional museum of local history in the city Mozyr ". Initially, the museum was called the Polesie Regional Museum of Local Lore.

In 1977, the building that housed the museum on Lenin Street was demolished. In the early 1980s, the archaeological research of Mozyr began. A large number of archaeologically unique items were found in the areas of the Castle Hill, the Cistercian monastery, the historical center of the city.
