Photo and descriptionThe Mozyr St. George Church, or the Temple in honor of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious, was built in 1995-1998 at the expense of a private entrepreneur from the city of Mozyr Chobanyan Voskan Haykazovich. The site for the erection of the Church of St. George was not chosen by chance - the Mound of Glory. Monuments to the defenders of the patronymic were erected on the Mound of Glory. The townspeople come here to remember the soldiers who fell during the Great Patriotic War. On May 6, 1995, a place for the construction of a church was consecrated in honor of the memory of all soldiers and leaders who died for their faith and fatherland. Voskan Haykazovich Chobanyan was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 3rd degree for his services to the Orthodox Church. In addition to the St. George Church, Chobanyan has founded and is a member of the board of trustees of several charitable foundations. These funds help seriously ill Belarusian children to survive and take care of orphans from the Mozyr orphanage. In 2001, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia visited St. George's Church. Several times the church, built with private donations from a Mozyr businessman, they desecrated and set on fire. On December 25, 2006, the wooden St. George Church was desecrated and burned by Satanists. This case of barbaric vandalism stirred up the Mozyr community. The believers responded to the call of Bishop Stefan of Turov. With their donations in March 2007, the construction of a stone church began. On November 16, 2010, gilded domes were installed on the new church.
