The medieval town of Gmund is located in a hilly area in the northwest of Lower Austria. Gmund is an economic and cultural center, a modern and prosperous city with a population of 5.5 thousand people. The first mention of the city dates back to 1208, and rapid development took place during the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph. In November 1869, a railway was launched, connecting Gmund with Vienna and Prague.

Currently, Gmund is visited by many tourists, because the city has well-preserved medieval buildings and cozy cobbled streets. The main sights of the city include: the main city square Hauptplatz, the Old Town Hall of the 16th century, St. Stephen's Church, the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Gmund Castle.

Fans of outdoor activities can go for a walk in the nature park, which has been open since 1964. The main interest in the park are giant granite boulders of the most incredible shapes and sizes. The territory of the park is divided into themed trails and trails, and the highest point is the tower of the former reservoir. About 120,000 people visit the park annually.
