Photo and description

The town of Gumpoldskirchen is known for its fine wines, cozy relaxing atmosphere and wonderful location (only 20 km from Vienna). Gumpoldskirchen is today highly regarded by tourists who come to taste wine or stay here, make trips and excursions to Vienna, Burgenland and the surrounding regions of Lower Austria. Tourists can enjoy pleasant walks in the picturesque surroundings.

Winemaking began to develop here in the 15th century, however, the rapid growth was hampered by the financial and economic crisis that began after the Thirty Years War. Barely recovering, the industry again faced another disaster: an invasion of insects that destroyed almost all vineyards.

The sights of Gumpoldskirchen include the building of the City Hall, known to many wine lovers thanks to its image on wine bottles made in local wineries. In front of the Town Hall there is a Pillar of Shame - a huge stone pillar that was used as a punishment for those who were guilty. Also noteworthy is the cozy city street Kirchengasse with old houses from the 16th century.

The Church of St. Michael, built between 1400 and 1450, is one of the most beautiful rural Gothic temples. Two beautiful Gothic statues (John and Peter), as well as an exquisite Baroque altarpiece, make the church an interesting place to visit. Nearby is the castle of the Teutonic Order.

All conditions for a pleasant stay are created in Gumpoldskirchen. There are comfortable hotels here,
