Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionIn 1860, Alexander II established the State Bank by his decree. In 1864 one of the first divisions of the bank was opened in Kazan. The first premises of the State Bank were located in the Kremlin. The opening of a subdivision in Kazan was evidence of the great importance of the Kazan province in the economy of the center of Russia. In the pre-revolutionary period, the Kazan branch of the State Bank was actively developing. The bank was run by a galaxy of excellent managers. All nine managers had excellent education and were good financial organizers. They received the highest awards. In 1911 in St. Petersburg, it was decided to build a new building for the Kazan branch of the State Bank. The city authorities have allocated a place for the construction. It was decided to build a building on Bolshaya Prolomnaya Street (now Bauman Street), in the business part of the city. On the site of the future building there was a second men's gymnasium. The two-story stone house was demolished. Several neighboring houses were bought by the State Bank and demolished. According to the project, the building was supposed to be symmetrical with two identical wings. But due to the intransigence of one of the owners of a nearby building to be demolished, the project had to be redone. The building turned out to be asymmetrical, with one left wing. Designed and built the building for groups of specialists: architects F.P. Gavrilov and A.G. Sapunov, engineer Trifonov. The building was built in 1914-1915 in the neoclassical style of the eclectic period. They were built from local stones: limestone and dolomite. The building has excellent interior and exterior decoration. Its architecture was distinguished by good taste and austerity of forms. The tenth governor was State Councilor Maryin. It was during his leadership that the revolution took place. Maryin became famous for heroically saving the country's gold reserves, which were kept in the Kazan branch of the State Bank. The values entrusted to him were captured by the White Czechs. He personally, being disabled, without a leg, accompanied a train with gold through the rear of the civil war - across the whole of Siberia. In May 1920, all the gold returned to Kazan in full safety. Currently, the building has been restored and houses the National Bank of the Republic of Tatarstan.
