The railway station is located on Privokzalnaya Square, in the central part of Kazan. It was built in 1896. It is a historical monument, an architectural monument and a landmark of the city.

By the end of the 19th century, Kazan was the largest administrative and cultural center of Russia, but it did not have railway transport. In 1891, at the request of the mayor, S. Dyachenko, the construction of the Moscow-Kazan railway began. Simultaneously, in the same year, the construction of a railway station begins.

The project of the building of the Kazan railway station was developed by the architect Heinrich Rusch. In Kazan, Heinrich Rusch developed another project - the construction of the Epiphany Bell Tower, located on Bauman Street. The building material was red brick. In 1893, train traffic was opened between Kazan and Sviyazhsk. At that time there was still no railway bridge across the Volga. Passengers were transported to the other bank of the Volga by steamer in summer and sleigh in winter. In 1897, it took 53 hours to get from Kazan to Moscow.

In 1992, as a result of a fire, almost the entire station building was destroyed, leaving only the walls and foundation. In 1996, the 100th anniversary of the Kazan Railway Station was celebrated. By the anniversary, the building was completely renovated and restored. The previous architectural decor inside and outside the building has been recreated. The walls and floor were faced with granite and marble.

The Kazan-Passenger complex includes the following objects: the main station building, suburban terminal and long-distance ticket office building. Kazan railway station is an important object of transport and urban infrastructure. Trains to various regions of Russia pass through the Kazan railway junction: to Siberia, the Far East, the Urals and many other regions.
