Photo and descriptionThe Museum of Wooden Architecture "Obdorsky Ostrog" in Salekhard is a unique architectural complex that reproduces the appearance of a fortification post in the Obdorsky region in the 17th century. The monument of Russian wooden architecture is considered one of the main decorations of the historic city center. Laid down by the Cossacks of the Berezovsky governor N. Trakhaniotov, the Obdorsk prison laid the foundation for the modern Salekhard - one of the very first Russian settlements, which was founded on the territory of Siberia. The main task of the prison was to control the movement of goods to Mangazeya. The jail had the shape of a small quadrangle and was made of wood. There were two observation towers and two through towers in total. Inside the prison there were residential and administrative buildings, as well as the Vasilievsky temple, erected in 1602. In the second half of the XVIII century. Obdorsk outpost began to gradually lose its significance as a military defensive structure. In 1799, the military garrison located there was disbanded. As a result, the outpost was transformed into the center of the Obdorsk volost of the Berezovsky district of the Tobolsk province - the village of Obdorsk. After a while, the Tobolsk Governor A.M. Kornilov ordered to demolish the towers and walls of the wooden prison, referring to their "dilapidation". In 1992 A. Opolovnikov, an ascetic scientist, doctor of architecture, honored architect of the RSFSR, decided to develop a project to restore the fort. In 1994 A. Opolovnikov recreated the first watchtower of the Obdorsk prison - the Nikolskaya tower. Today, the "Obdorsky prison" in Salekhard is a whole open-air museum complex, which was opened to the public in September 2006. Ostrog is located on a hilltop with an amazing view of the city's surroundings. A long staircase leads to the wooden gate of the museum complex. The entire territory is surrounded by high palisades. Inside, there are restored buildings typical of the Russian North. The walls of the houses were built of logs. There is also a monument dedicated to the founders of Obdorsk, and a marble slab with the names of the revolutionaries who died in 1921 during the peasant uprising.
