Evora is famous for its "Aqueduct of Silver Water". This magnificent structure was built by the Romans under the Emperor Sertorius. In 1531-1537, architect Francisco de Arruda completely reconstructed the aqueduct. It was such an impressive structure that the greatest poet of Portugal, Camoes, even described it in his Lusiads.
