Medvednica is the name of the mountain range and the natural park located there, located to the north of the Croatian capital, Zagreb. The highest point of Medvednica is Mount Sleme, which is 1,033 meters high. This mountain range is a popular vacation spot for residents of the capital.

In the central part of Medvednica Park there are numerous well-maintained roads, hotels, historical monuments and infrastructure elements (restaurants, shops), so that visitors can get the impression that they are are located in an ordinary city park. The top can be reached by highway or by cable car. The ski resort of the same name located right there is recognized as the best in the northern part of Croatia. On the northern and eastern slopes of Medvednica there are ski slopes of varying degrees of difficulty. On the northern slope, international slalom competitions are constantly held.

One of the main attractions of natural origin is the Veternica cave, located in the southwestern part of Medvednica. The cave is 7,128 meters long, but for safety reasons, visitors can only visit the first 380 meters. The cave is interesting for rock paintings, traces of the life of primitive people about 42 thousand years ago. years and a colony of bats. Also in Veternitsa you can admire stalactites and stalagmites, the most interesting of which have their own names and are highlighted.

Another attraction of Medvednitsa is the Zrinsky mine, which is underground mines, corridors and open workings, the development of which began in the 15th century.

On the southern slope of the massif there is the Medvedgrad fortress, built in 13th century by decision of Pope Innocent IV after hordes of Tatar-Mongols destroyed the capital. However, the impregnable fortress was never attacked by the enemy. Today you can admire Zagreb from the observation deck of the fortress from a height of 500 meters.
