This park is recognized as the largest city park, often referred to as the "Living Monument of Zagreb". In the park, you can see numerous flower beds, alleys, lakes and forest areas. The Zagreb Zoo is also located in the park. The founder of Maksimir Park is Bishop Maximilian Vrchovac, the park got its name in his honor. The date of foundation of Maksimir Park is 1794. The park was designed by the English landscape designer Brown. There are many monuments and historical sites of Zagreb built in various styles in the park. Examples include the Echo and Bellevue pavilions built in 1843, the Belvedere, the doorman's hut and the Swiss House. You can also see many sculptures in the park.
