The Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya is one of the most famous and visited Moscow theaters. Today the main director of the theater is Sergei Golomazov.

The theater on Malaya Bronnaya has a rich history. It was created in 1946 and was called the Moscow Drama Theater. The main director of the theater was Sergei Mayorov. The theater was originally located on Spartakovskaya Street. Actors from other theaters and graduates of the theater school named after V.I. M.S.Schepkina. The theater opened with the performance "The Golden Hoop" (play by M. Kozakov and A. Mariengof).

During Mayorov's leadership, the theater's repertoire consisted of plays by contemporary playwrights. For 11 years, 45 premieres have passed. In 1957, the director Mayorov was transferred to the Lenin Komsomol Theater. Since 1958 A. Goncharov was the main director of the theater.

The theater received its current name in 1968. The name comes from the location of the theater since 1962 on Malaya Bronnaya Street. The theater building was built in 1902, designed by the architect K. K. Gippius. It was built as a tenement house of the "Society for Benefits to Needy Students of the Imperial Moscow University."

In 1968, A. L. Dunaev was appointed the chief director of the theater. At the same time, A. Efros moved from another theater to the theater on Malaya Bronnaya. He took over as director. Efros and Dunaev, in a fruitful creative collaboration, turned the theater into the most interesting and visited theater in Moscow. Efros staged performances that went down in the history of theater: "Romeo and Juliet" and "Othello" by Shakespeare. "Three Sisters" by Chekhov. "A Month in the Country" I. Turgenev. "The Marriage" by N. Gogol. "Don Juan" by Moliere.

In 2007 Sergei Golomazov is the artistic director of the theater. His students, graduates of his acting and directing course at the Academy of Theater Arts, also successfully work in the troupe of the theater.
