Photo and description

The Grodno Regional Drama Theater was created in 1947 on the basis of the Bobruisk Regional Drama Theater, which was temporarily located in Grodno. The theater, headed by N. Kovyazin, opened its first season with the premiere of a play based on A. Ostrovsky's play "Truth is good, but happiness is better." The first building where the theatrical collective worked was the house of the Grodno headman A. Tizengauz of the 18th century.

In the post-war years, plays about the Great Patriotic War were popular in Belarus. The theater's repertoire also included performances on classical drama.

In 1950, director Y. Yurlovsky became the artistic director of the Grodno Drama Theater. With his arrival, the theater's repertoire includes performances based on works of national Belarusian themes, as well as performances based on plays by contemporary playwrights.

In the 1960s-1970s, the theater's repertoire mainly consisted of plays about the revolution in the country's history.

Since the 1980s, acute social problems have been raised in the drama theater, as well as the problem of morality and ethics in modern society.

Currently, the theater's repertoire has improved significantly. Leading creative directors and actors have joined the team. Among the latest productions of the theater are such masterpieces of world drama as "The Tricks of Love" by Lope de Vega, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by D. Wasserman, "Taras on Parnassus" by S. Kovalev, "Razidanaye so much" by J. Kupala.

The theater repertoire includes not only adult performances. A children's repertoire has been specially developed for young viewers, in which such wonderful performances as "Birthday of the Cat Leopold", "Aibolit and Barmaley", "The Tale of the Wild Forest" have been developed.

In 1980, designed by architect G. Machulsky a large modern theater building was erected of brick and reinforced concrete, similar to a crown. The entrance was decorated with a sculptural composition by L. Zilber. The new building has two modern comfortable auditoriums: a large one with an amphitheater and a balcony accommodates 700 seats and a small hall for 216 seats on the ground floor.

The theater recently celebrated its 65th anniversary. This significant event was marked by a grandiose theatrical performance in honor of the creative theater team.
