Moscow Drama Theater. KS Stanislavsky is located in the center of Moscow, on Tverskaya Street. It was opened in 1948. The theater was organized on the basis of KS Stanislavsky's opera and drama studio. The studio was founded in 1935, based on the decision of the Soviet government. The leading actors of that time took part in organizing the studio: Knipper - Chekhova, Moskvin, Lilina, Kachalov, Kedrov, Leonidov, Podgorny and others. In October 1935, the opening took place on the Small Stage of the Moscow Art Theater.

The studio held classes with actors. Leading artists worked with young artists on the internal and external technique of the actor, worked with them on the word, played a variety of etude performances. That is, we were engaged with them all that is necessary to master the profession of an actor, for playing various roles.

K. S. Stanislavsky adhered to his own method of training actors. He began to work with students at once on a whole play. He sought from the students mastery of playing in the ensemble and a creative approach to understanding the role. In 1938, after the death of Stanislavsky, the studio was headed by M.N.Kedrov. He ran the studio until 1948.

In 1948 the opera department was abolished. Since that time, the theater has been called "Moscow Drama Theater named after KS Stanislavsky ". In 1950 M. M. Yanshin was appointed the chief director of the theater. The performances staged by Yanshin were a great success. From 1963 to 1966 B.A. Lvov-Anokhin was the chief director of the theater. From 1976 to 1979 the production was directed by A.D. Popov. From 1980 to 1989, the theater was headed by the famous director A.G. Tovstonogov. His play "Heart of a Dog" based on Bulgakov is still in the theater's repertoire. In 2011, People's Artist of Russia Valery Belyakovich became the artistic director of the famous theater.

There are many famous artists in the theater troupe: People's Artists of Russia Afanasyev, Korenev. Honored Artists of Russia Lushina, Geykhman, Konstantinova, Duvanov, Kutakov and others. The theater's repertoire includes many different productions: dramas, fairy tales, comedies and tragicomedies, detective stories, operas and ballets.

The building in which the theater is located today is an architectural monument of federal significance. It was built in 1845 by the architect Nikiforov. The building was known as the profitable "House of the Shablykins". In 1915, the building was rebuilt into the Ars electrotheatre by the architect Zabolotsky. In 1939, during the reconstruction of Tverskaya Street, the building was “moved” 10 meters deep into the street. It became the world's heaviest moved building.
