The Museum of the History of the City of Brest was originally opened as a branch of the Regional Museum of Local Lore. It started working relatively recently - on July 25, 1998. Since 2007, the museum has acquired independence. In 2008, the museum building was repaired and reconstructed.

The museum's exposition is located in four halls. It tells the history of the ancient East Slavic city of Berestya, located on the island where the Brest Fortress is now located, about the origin of the city of Brest-Litovsk, transferred to the territory of the Kobrin Forstadt during the construction of the Brest Fortress, the history of the city at the time when it was in Poland and was called Brest nad Bug, difficult military trials that befell the city during. World War II and post-war life.

There are more than 800 exhibits in the permanent exhibition of the museum, the area of the museum is about 200 square meters.
