Some samples belong to the end of the second half of the XIX century. the beginning of the first half of the XX century. The collection is distinguished by high scientific and artistic value, being the best collection of stones not only in Yekaterinburg, but also in Russia. On the basis of V. Since its inception, the Ural Mineralogical Museum has been located in the city center in the building of a former restaurant at the Bolshoi Ural Hotel, which in 1999 was transferred by the leadership of the Sverdlovsk Region. With the change of ownership in 2004, protracted conflicts and litigation began between the museum and the constantly changing tenants of the hotel premises.

At the beginning of 2015, the V. Pelepenko Mineralogical Museum was nevertheless evicted from the hotel building. The Sverdlovsk authorities decided to provide the museum with new premises.
