Photo and descriptionThe Brest Regional Museum of Local Lore is considered one of the youngest ethnographic museums in the Republic of Belarus. It was founded in 1950, when the staff of the museum workers was approved and the collection of collections began. On June 22, 1957, the first permanent exhibition of the museum was opened. Now the Brest Ethnographic Museum has a solid collection of collected exhibits. It also has 4 branches: the archaeological museum "Berestye" was opened at the site of archaeological excavations of the ancient Slavic city, "Saved artistic values" displays works of art confiscated at customs, "Kamenets Tower" - a defensive structure of the 13th century, "Art Museum", opened in the southern the barracks of the Brest Fortress exhibits a collection of items of decorative and applied art. The main exposition of the museum contains the following collections: painting (more than 2 thousand items), graphics (about 24.5 thousand items), sculpture (32 items), numismatics (almost 18 thousand items), as well as weapons, furniture, clothing, folk musical instruments, old printed and handwritten books, jewelry made of precious metals and stones, photographic materials and documents. There are two sounded dioramas in the nature department: "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" and "Polesie", telling about the wealth of a unique animal and flora of the Brest region. In the halls of the museum you can get an idea of ancient life, folk crafts and arts, military affairs, famous natives of Brest. The museum also holds exhibitions of works of art and collections from other museums.
