The fact is that the water from the Lend Canal entered the defensive ditches that surrounded Klagenfurt. Nowadays, the Lend Canal is used for pleasure boat trips. It has long turned into one of the local attractions. Several openwork bridges are thrown across it. One of them, called Stone, was built in 1535, therefore it is considered the oldest bridge over the Lend Canal and the oldest bridge in Carinthia. In 1966, it was adapted for modern transport. Stone bridge characterized by that he himself and his reflection in the water form a perfect circle, now serves as a meeting place for local youth. The authorities planned to connect the city with Lake Werthersee to the west by building a canal back in the 13th century. it was possible to realize the desired only in 1527. The catalyst for this was a fire in 1518, when there was not enough water in Klagenfurt to extinguish it. The width of the Land Canal is about 34 meters, the depth reaches 7 meters. The canal immediately began to be actively used by fishermen, who delivered fresh catch on their boats directly to the city's markets. This waterway got its name from the old German word, which translated as "dock". Walking paths are laid along the canal. There is a special path for cyclists and roller-skaters.
