Photo and description

The Raimund Theater is a theater in Vienna in the Mariahilf district, designed by Franz Roth. The theater opened its doors to the public on November 28, 1893. The theater got its name in honor of the famous Austrian playwright Ferdinand Raimund. The theater's repertoire consisted of German folk dramas and plays.

In 1908, the theater premiered Johann Strauss's operetta The Gypsy Baron. Other high-profile premieres include Robert Stolz's "Happy Girl", which took place in October 1910, as well as others.

The theater was not damaged during the Second World War, so it reopened to visitors in April 1945. Three years later, in 1948, Rudolf Marika came to the post of director of the theater, remaining in this post for almost 30 years. Rudolf Marika made a great contribution to the development of the theater, creating performances with the involvement of such stars as Johannes Histers, Marika Rock and many others. This theater has become a launching pad for many aspiring actors, including Hansi Nise, Laula Veseli, Karl Skraup.

After 1976, the theater sometimes began to stage musicals, for example, Kurt Weill's Lady in the Dark. In the fall of 1997, the world premiere of The Ball of the Vampires took place. In September 2006, the musical "Rebecca" by Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levaya was released.
