Photo and description

On the Condi di Vila Flor square, there is a Roman temple - one of the most famous buildings in Evora. Standing on a high stylobate, the temple with 14 well-preserved Corinthian granite columns was built in the II-III centuries AD and is believed to be dedicated to the goddess Diana.

This is the only Roman temple in Portugal. Despite this, for centuries it was used as a theater, an armory, even as a slaughterhouse. But in 1870 the ancient building was saved: it was cleared and it became available for viewing.
