The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in Mineralnye Vody is one of the landmarks of this region. The golden domes of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos shone over the city in a surprisingly short time. The construction of the temple began in 1992 and ended in 1997. The cathedral was erected with the blessing of Vladyka Gedeon, Metropolitan of Stavropol. The site for the construction of the temple was chosen by S.A. Shiyanov, the former head of the city, on the day of memory of St. Sergius of Radonezh.

The site allotted for the construction of the cathedral was consecrated on December 25, 1990. After a while, the women who in the morning passed through the site of the temple found an old icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God under a tree. This was considered a sign, after which the lower side-altar of the cathedral was consecrated in honor of this image. The south side-altar was consecrated in honor of the great martyr John the Warrior.

The Intercession Cathedral was erected by the Vladikavkaz architect M.K. Mikhailovich. Construction work on the construction of the new church was carried out under the leadership of the rector, Fr. Elijah Ageev. People of different professions participated in the construction of the majestic temple: builders, architects, masters of bell and painting art, ordinary parishioners. The ceremony of solemn consecration of the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos took place on October 14, 1997

The complex of the cathedral consists of the church itself, an administrative building, office premises, a cell building and a wall. The temple has nine chapters and eight bells in the belfry. The architect of the project created a temple in an eclectic style with elements of the architecture of ancient Russia in decorations and design. The cathedral has a wonderful four-tiered iconostasis. All interior paintings are designed in an academic manner and were created by different artists who managed to create a harmonious design of the cathedral.
