Photo and description

Not far from the Friedland Gate is the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in the building of the Rosenau Church, erected in 1926. The evangelical church of Koenigsberg, which has survived to this day, was built in the neo-Gothic style and had a square four-story clock tower.

The construction of the temple was started in June 1914 on the suburb of Rosenau, which at that time became part of the city of Konigsberg. The foundations for the church were lined with granite boulders of an old fortress building. The First World War and the subsequent difficult financial situation of the Prussian state postponed the construction of the building for an indefinite period, and only in early December 1926 the solemn consecration of the temple took place. During the Second World War, the building of the church was practically not damaged, but the services were no longer held. In Soviet times, the building was used as a warehouse for one of the city's enterprises. In the 1990s, the evangelical church was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church.

At the end of the twentieth century, a letter was found in the drum of the tower spire (under the cross), in which it was reported about the people who took part in the construction of the church, and drawings ... The letter mentions the pastor Wagner, through whose efforts the authorities gave the go-ahead for the construction, the master A. Quadfasel, the architect A. Pfaum and the artel elder Pershke. Today the letter is kept in the museum of the temple.

Now in the building of the Rosenau Church is the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. The historical building has the status of an object of cultural heritage (regional significance) and an architectural monument. The building has been reconstructed, the territory around the temple has been ennobled, and in the temple itself there is a handmade iconostasis.
