Photo and description

The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the architectural sights of the city of Vladivostok. The foundation stone of the church was laid in May 1900; priest Alexander Muravyov initiated its construction. The cathedral was the second most important parish church in Vladivostok. The first was the Assumption Cathedral, which was ruthlessly demolished, like the Intercession Church, under Soviet rule. On holidays, the temple was visited by thousands of Orthodox. The church had three entrances, many windows and a large central dome, which allowed a lot of light into the temple.

The church was consecrated in September 1902. Around the same time, a parish school was opened here. In 1923, the cemetery was closed, which was located near the temple, and the building itself was soon transferred to the renovation community. Further, the temple was used as a club building. In 1935 the temple was blown up, and on the site of the Pokrovsky cemetery it was decided to build a city park of culture and recreation. Brick from the temple was used in the construction of the pedagogical institute.

In 2004, Archbishop Veniamin of Vladivostok and Primorsky, during a prayer service, together with the city clergy, consecrated the beginning of the construction of the temple. The Archbishop personally laid the foundation stone for the church and the relics of the Holy Martyr Constantine Bogorodsky. Since that time, the revival of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos began in its former place.

The author of this project was a team of architects from DNIIMF under the leadership of Alexander Kotlyarov. Externally, the temple is made in the Old Russian style and is very similar to its five-domed predecessor. The total area of the temple reaches 600 sq. M., And the height with the cross is 40 m.

In 2007, on the day of Easter, the first divine service took place in the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos.
