Photo and description

The church and monastery of the Franciscans was founded in 1237 by order of Henry the Pious. The church was a typical princely chapel, with a plan in the shape of a Greek cross. The austere severity of its stepped facade is softened by shallow niches. Thick brick walls, slightly protruding buttresses, pilasters on the transept are the last elements of the Romanesque style against the background of the Gothic. In the XIV century, a sacristy was added to the church and the nave was lengthened; in the 16th century - side chapels and an inner gallery. The existing interior was made in a neo-gothic style at the end of the 19th century.
