Photo and description

Lake of the pregnant girl is located on one of the small islands of the archipelago south of the island of Langkawi. This islet of Taysik Dayang Bunting is very visited not only because of the intriguing name of the lake. The origin of this impeccably clean fresh water body in the middle of a salt water ocean is an interesting geological phenomenon.

Several thousand years ago, there was no lake. In its place was a mountain, soft inside, hard outside, that is, the rock layers consisted of different geological rocks. As a result of the relentless work of the ocean surf, the softer inner rock was washed away. First, a cave formed, then its dome, that is, the top of the mountain, collapsed. The collapsed vault blocked the communication with the ocean. Over time, the formed natural pit was filled with rainwater.

The lake is located in a national nature park. The wooded hills surrounding it, with their outlines, resemble the figure of a pregnant woman lying on her back - in support of the name. In fact, the name of the lake comes from many legends and beliefs. The most widespread legend tells of the fairytale beauty of the princess, who chose a prince as her husband, of course. By the will of the gods, their firstborn died, and in inconsolable grief, the mother gave the child's body to the water of the lake, thereby consecrating him. There are a lot of interpretations of the legend. There is only one sense: a barren woman, having bathed in the waters of the lake, will become a mother.

In addition to the legends about the princess, there is an ancient Malay belief about a white crocodile living in the lake, which also gives hope for motherhood. There is no crocodile, of course, otherwise there would not be so many people willing to plunge into the lake. But small catfish are found in abundance. In any case, the locals consider the lake a mystical place. Childless spouses from all over the world come here on pilgrimage.
