The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baranovichi is a unique temple with an unusual destiny. The cathedral was built specifically for the mosaic frescoes transported from the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Warsaw, designed by the architect Alexander Obolonsky.

From the late 18th to the early 20th century, Warsaw was part of the Russian Empire. The city with a centuries-old Catholic history has repeatedly rebelled against the Russian government and Orthodoxy. In order to consolidate Russian domination, in 1900, in the center of Warsaw, the huge majestic Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky was built, on which the Russian Empire and the Orthodox Church spared neither funds nor efforts. The interiors of the cathedral were decorated with columns of semi-precious materials and other precious utensils, and mosaic panels based on sketches by V. Vasnetsov, N. Bruni, N. Kosheleva, V. Dumitrashko were executed in the famous St. Petersburg workshop of Frolov.

By the decision of the Polish Seim in 1924, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was demolished, but seven mosaic panels were saved and transported to Baranovichi. Here, the construction of the Intercession Cathedral immediately began, in which the panels were again installed, which received minor damage during transportation. These mosaic panels are recognized as the best mosaics in the world, created in the 19th-20th centuries.

Now the most beautiful Baranovichi Cathedral is in perfect condition. For the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Rus, it was decorated with gilded crosses. The territory of the temple is landscaped and pleasing to the eye. Since 1990, a Sunday school for children and adults has been operating at the cathedral.
