Photo and description

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Kobrin was built on the site of the mass grave of Russian soldiers who died in the battle with Napoleon's troops on June 15, 1812. 52 years after the historic battle, in which the first victory of the Russian troops was won, the temple of Alexander Nevsky was laid.

Why exactly 52 years later the construction of the temple began? There was another reason that needed to be perpetuated - the abolition of serfdom. In connection with the abolition of serfdom, the Russian Tsar Alexander II was named the Liberator. It is known that Alexander Nevsky was the heavenly patron of Alexander II. Therefore, it was decided to build a large beautiful cathedral in honor of Alexander Nevsky - to please the tsar, to strengthen the tsar's power and the rule of Orthodoxy in Kobrin.

A mysterious story is associated with the temple, which has two versions. The first version is official - lightning struck the dome of the temple, a fire broke out, in which the temple was badly damaged. It was restored, but the dome was not restored, but a planetarium was made in the former temple. Another version is folk. They say that the authorities decided to tear off the dome from the temple in order to deprive Kobrin of the symbol of the Christian faith. We were looking for a volunteer for a long time to help put the rope on the dome, but could not find it. And then one insurance agent volunteered, who fulfilled the task of the authorities, but soon went crazy. Kobrin residents believe that heavenly punishment befell him.

One way or another, the situation was with the domes of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, but in 1961 the cathedral was converted into a planetarium, and then the state archive was opened within its walls.
