Azhdahak is a truncated cone with a crater of an extinct volcano, where there is a pure mountain lake, the depth of which reaches 90 meters. The lake is fed by glacial melt water, which is why it is so transparent that even at great depths you can count all the stones at the bottom.

In Armenian mythology, Azhdahak is a dragon-man (vishap) - a legendary creature, the guardian of this entire beautiful country ... Vishaps live high in the sky, but sometimes they descend into the depths of the lake, while emitting a deafening roar and sweeping away everything in their path.

Ancient myths are reflected in mysterious rock paintings that confirm, that man settled in the Gagem mountains in ancient times. They can still be seen on the surrounding rocks and rocks. Scientists around the world are struggling to figure out their meaning, but the drawings still keep their secret.

In the summer, organized groups of tourists are taken by car to the very foot. Climbing Azhdahak takes only 6-8 hours for tourists with an average level of preparation. A breathtaking view of the Hatis, Azhdahak, Aaragats and Ara mountains, as well as the waters of the famous Lake Sevan, opens from the top of the volcano.

On the slopes of Azhdahak, a unique alpine low-growing flora grows, more beautiful than which you have hardly seen anything. Delicate little flowers making their way through the stones, an emerald carpet of alpine herbs, blue, fields of blooming gentian. Birds of prey soar in the sky over the crater of the volcano announcing the reigning silence with their screams. Here live: golden eagle, vulture, black vulture, burial ground, griffon vulture, bearded vulture.
