Photo and description

The Museum of the History of the Zaporozhye Cossacks is located in Zaporozhye on the island of Khortytsya. There is a huge mound near the museum; it can be seen from the dam. According to some historians, this mound is a kind of Scythian burial, on the top of which a stone woman used to stand. In ancient times, in the Tauride steppes, there were many such mounds, as well as women made of stone. Most of these stone statues are collected in the reserve called "Stone Graves". And in Zaporozhye, stone women are still located near the Museum of Local Lore.

In the modern Museum of the History of Zaporozhye Cossacks, various interesting historical expositions and exhibitions operate on a permanent basis. The expositions of the Zaporozhye Cossacks in fiction and historical literature are presented, expositions about the nature of the island of Khortytsya, about Orthodoxy in the lands of Ukraine and expositions dedicated to new archaeological finds in the national reserve. Also, separate programs have been developed for senior preschool children and schoolchildren.

Not far from the museum you can find a stone pillar, the inscription on which will tell you that Prince Svyatoslav was supposedly killed in this place. the son of Princess Olga. In the same place is also a very mysterious black stone, which, according to everyone, is magical and endowed with tremendous magical power.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a kind of copy of the Zaporizhzhya Sich began to be erected near the museum, later it became the historical and cultural complex "Zarporizka Sich". It was in this place that in 2007 several episodes of the famous film Taras Bulba were filmed. In these filming and in the crowd itself, ordinary Cossacks were actively filmed.
