Photo and description

The old Ulm mint is considered a real gem of the city: the building was built in the middle of the 16th century. Initially, the functional purpose of the house was combined with its name - they really made money here. The power of the city in the Middle Ages was largely based on the fact that it was built soundly. Wooden buildings made of special oak have been perfectly preserved, including the Old Mint.

At the end of the 16th century, namely in 1589, the first floor of the wooden mint was overlaid with bricks. But in 1620, two floors were added in the wonderful and so traditional for Germany fachwerk style. The neighborhood of brick and dark wood, special plaster - all this has been preserved to this day.

Since 1624, the purpose of the building has been constantly changing: here, opposite the equally famous `` falling '' at home, between the two branches of the small river Blau, there was an oil mill and a malt mill. In each case, the building was slightly rebuilt, its interior decoration changed. One of the reminders of what happened here is the water wheel, which has been preserved on the south side of the building. This continued until the middle of the 20th century. The mint was badly damaged by an aircraft strike in 1944, but today the building has been restored and serves as one of the points of the tourist program.
