The collection of the Old Pinakothek is based on the private collections of the Witelsbachs and includes works by Durer, van Dyck, Titian, Botticelli, Raphael, Rubens and many other masters. The first floor is dedicated to the works of old German masters of the 16th-18th centuries. The second floor houses paintings by Dutch, Flemish, French, German, Italian and Spanish artists.

The museum building is also of artistic value - it is a masterpiece of 19th century architecture, built in the style of Venetian Renaissance palaces.

The New Pinakothek was opened in 1981. More than 600 paintings and sculptures by European masters of the late 18th - early 20th centuries are exhibited in its halls. Here you can see the works of such renowned masters as Turner, Constable, Rubens, Mare, Manet, Monet, Degas and Van Gogh.
The newest Pinakothek contains contemporary works of art, design, graphics, jewelry and architecture of various directions. Here you can see works by Picasso, Matisse, Beckmann.
