Photo and description

The Chateau de Cheverny was built by Jacques Huro - the quartermaster of King Louis XII - in 1490 on the site of an old mill. His descendant Henri Huro demolished the old buildings, linking him with unpleasant memories of his first wife's infidelity, and began construction of a new building.

Cheverny is the first mansion of the 17th century in the style that was later called classic. The material is local white sandstone. The facade of the castle has never been restored since 1634.

The castle has preserved old interiors and pieces of furniture, since the castle was owned by the same family for several centuries. The Armory Hall - the largest in the castle - displays a collection of armor and weapons. In the Tapestry Hall you can see masterpieces based on drawings by David Tenier. The Trophy Room is decorated with two thousand antlers mounted in the walls and ceiling.

Hunting in Cheverny takes place in winter, twice a week. Psarni is another attraction of this castle. There are over 70 dogs here.
