Photo and description

Trickery is a small mountain settlement in the southwestern part of the picturesque Greek peninsula of Pelion, 81 km from the administrative center of the Magnesia region - the city of Volos. The town is nestled at the top of a steep rocky hill, at an altitude of 450 m above sea level and offers its guests fantastic panoramic views of the Pagassian Gulf and Pelion.

The settlement was founded around the beginning of the 17th century by those who tried to find refuge in the mountains of Pelion (due to the constant threats of pirate raids) by the inhabitants of the nearby islet of Paleo Trickery (Old Trickery). In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Trickery had one of the largest merchant fleets in the region, which subsequently took an active part in the Greek Revolution.

Today Trikeri is an authentic Greek settlement with narrow cobbled streets, beautiful old mansions and temples. This is a great place for those who want to relax in silence, away from the excessive bustle and enjoy the real Greece.

Among the main attractions of Trikeri, it is worth noting the Church of St. Athanasius, the Church of Agia Anargiri and the Church of Agia Triada. You can get acquainted with local traditions by visiting local cultural events. Large-scale mass festivities and grandiose festivities with music, dancing and food are certainly held in Trikeri on Easter and May 1.

A pretty fishing village of Agia Kiriyaki, located just 4 km from the settlement, is definitely worth a visit. Here, in one of the cozy taverns, you can taste excellent local cuisine, the menu of which presents a fairly wide selection of dishes from the freshest fish and seafood. You can also go on a short sea voyage and visit the islet of Paleo Trickery.

Until the 70s of the last century, you could only get to Trickery by sea. Today, by going on an excursion to Trikeri by land, you can fully enjoy the magnificent natural landscapes and the amazing beauty of the landscapes of the peninsula, as well as visit one of the many mountain villages scattered along the slopes of Pelion on the way.
