In the southeastern part of Thesalia lies Mount Pelion (or Pelio), or rather a mountain range that forms a small peninsula (between the Gulf of Pagassia and the Aegean Sea). This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times and is famous for its rich cultural and historical heritage. Pelion also occupies an important place in Greek mythology. According to legend, it was here that the centaurs, led by the wise Chiron, lived and many events of ancient Greek myths that we know took place. Here lies the legendary ancient city of Iolk - the birthplace of the leader of the Argonauts Jason.

You should definitely visit the picturesque mountain villages scattered along the slopes of Pelion. These are authentic Greek settlements with traditional architecture of the region and numerous historical monuments. Many beautiful old mansions have been preserved here, as well as ancient churches and monasteries with unique frescoes. The most interesting are such settlements as Makrinitsa, Zagora, Tsangarada, Portaria, Milies and Kisos.

Pelion is famous for its numerous resort villages and excellent beaches, many of which are holders of the "blue flag" of UNESCO.
